I never showed this, but last year for Mr Greenblat's birthday, I sent him an email saying:

"Hi Rodney. I'm a really big fan of your work. My favorite of yours is Parappa the Rapper. So much so, I drew a comic for your birthday. I would love to show it to you. Thanks."

And his response:

"Thanks for writing, and thanks for being inspired by my characters and artwork. I really appreciate it. I'm glad you are having fun making Parappa comics. I'm sorry I have a weird fear of looking at fan art. I try not to because I am still working on the Parappa project, and I am afraid I might by accident get ideas from fans, and then not be able to give them credit or share any future income from those ideas. It would not be fair to them, so I just stay away from looking at fan art. I hope you can understand. If you make a comic with your own original characters I'd be more than happy to look at it and comment."

Well, it turns out, I am. As soon as I finish it, and clean it up, I want to see what he thinks.

(Also, forget about my high school "art". It's too terrible, so I'm deleting it.)

He seems stricter about this lately. I'm making a Parappa-inspired rhythm/RPG, and while I do have him posted on progress, I also wanted him to look at the storyboards I drew for it, but he didn't want to for this same reasoning....except he knows this does utilize original characters.

Oh well. Nothing I can do to change the way he would view the opportunity of looking at other works..
